McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield Athletics supporters might find it challenging to keep up with all the Wildcats have to offer the weekend of September 20-22. Top-25 matchups in football and women’s soccer, a national baseball championship celebration and a spirit gear sale are just the highlights of a busy, festive weekend in McMinnville.
On Saturday, third-ranked Linfield football plays host to No. 22 Cal Lutheran in what expects to be another fierce battle between the West Coast powerhouses and playoff regulars. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Maxwell Field.
Also on Saturday, beginning at noon, Wildcats women’s soccer hopes to serve as an unwelcome host to the 11-time Northwest Conference champion Loggers of Puget Sound. That match kicks off a string of back-to-back doubleheaders for Linfield women’s and men’s soccer; games both Saturday and Sunday are scheduled for noon and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
In addition to witnessing the action on the fields of play, Linfield fans are invited to participate in the following activities:
- Spirit Sale – Always wanted to wear a Linfield sports jersey? Looking to get a jump-start on holiday shopping? Here’s a chance to pick up a selection of purple and cardinal uniforms. Choose from a variety of Wildcat gear, including jerseys, t-shirts and hats. All items are available at ultra-cheap prices in the clothing stand at Maxwell Field, Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to the conclusion of the football game. Cash or check only, please.
- Baseball Championship Ring Ceremony – It’s not every day a national championship is celebrated, but Saturday is one of those days. At halftime of the football game, Linfield president Dr. Thomas Hellie will present NCAA national championship rings to members of the 2013 Wildcats baseball team, which won the Division III title this past May.
- Live video and audio coverage – Unable to make it to campus? Follow the Wildcats via live statistics (football / soccer), radio and internet play-by-play and video webcasts. Weekend coverage includes football and, new this year, women’s and men’s soccer.
- Honoring Steve Davis – Special wristbands will be distributed at the football game in support of Linfield alumnus Steve Davis ’72, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia and is undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Davis, a Linfield Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, is a former Wildcats football player and sports information director who has volunteered his time to manage the concession stand at home football games.
Linfield volleyball, cross country, women’s golf and men’s golf are also active, all at away venues. For a complete list of athletic-related events, check out the composite schedule.
