PORTLAND, Ore. – One point is all that separated Lewis & Clark from Linfield in a dual-meet victory Friday afternoon at Westmoreland Park.
Jarrod Nixon and Melissa Newton-Mora won the men’s and women’s races, respectively, for the host Pioneers. Nixon clocked in at 21:04.6 over four miles, while Newton-Mora completed the 5K course in 19:00.3.
Joe Gladow (Sr., Shoreline, Wash.) led the Wildcat contingent with a second-place showing (21:15.3). Michael O’Neil and Calvin Howell (Jr., San Antonio, Texas) finished in immediate succession, crossing the tape in 21 minutes, 18 seconds and 21 minutes, 37.9 seconds, respectively.
Flint Martino (Jr., Kalispell, Mont.) and Tyler Griffin (Fr., West Linn, Ore.) rounded out the scoring runners for the Linfield men, who defeated their Lewis & Clark counterparts 23-36. Martino was sixth (21:56.8) and Griffin took eighth (22:01.4).
Placing all five scoring runners in the top eight, the Wildcats won the men’s half of the dual meet for the third consecutive season.
On the women’s side, Siena Noe (Sr., Yakima, Wash.) was Linfield’s No. 1 runner with a time of 19 minutes, 13.4 seconds. Hannah Greider (Sr., Shoreline, Wash.) was three places behind (19:30.8) with Katie Skinner (Sr., Portland, Ore.) and Marisa Kume (Fr., Nagoya, Japan) rounding out the top 10. Skinner was seventh (19:31.2) while Kume placed 10th (19:49.2).
Claire Hann (Sr., Honolulu, Hawaii) completed the 5,000-meter course in 20 minutes, 5.3 seconds, finishing 12th overall.
The three-time defending Northwest Conference champion Pioneers won the women’s competition by a count of 22-36.
AHEAD: The Linfield Harrier Classic, contested at McMinnville’s Joe Dancer Park, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7. First race begins at 10 a.m.
