Linfield is headed to Tyler, Texas, for the NCAA Division III Tyler Regional playoff tournament starting Friday.

The Wildcats, 36-6 this season, earned the six-team regional’s No. 3 seed and will play fourth-seeded Redlands (34-10) Friday at 2 p.m. PDT in an opening round game.

Other Friday matchups at the Tyler Regional include host Texas-Tyler (41-4) facing Southwestern (34-11) at 9 a.m. and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (32-11) opposing East Texas Baptist (34-10) at 11:30 a.m.

The NCAA selection committee announced the 62-team Division III playoff field Monday morning as part of a streamed internet selection show on NCAA.com.

After capturing its 10th straight Northwest Conference title and securing the NWC’s automatic berth by winning the NWC Tournament, Linfield earned the No. 3 seed in the Tyler Regional. Linfield was the only NWC school to receive a postseason invitation.

Five of the six teams invited to the Tyler Regional are ranked among the Top 10 nationally. In the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, Texas-Tyler is No. 5, Linfield is ranked No. 6, East Texas Baptist is rated 10th, Claremont is No. 13, and Redlands is 18th.

Linfield is expected to depart Wednesday for Texas.

In addition to the six-team Tyler Regional, seven other regional sites will have eight teams competing to advance. All regional sites will use a double-elimination format.

The eight-team Division III championship finals, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, will be held May 17-21 at Carson Park at Eau Claire, Wis. The Wildcats reached the NCAA championship game each of the last three seasons and four of the last six years, winning the championship in 2007 and 2011.
