Wildcats take in sun, fierce competition

EUGENE and FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Looking to improve upon marks in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Track & Field Championships, a handful of Wildcats competed in a pair of late-season meets hosted by the University of Oregon and Pacific University.

Anna LaBeaume (Jr., Sequim, Wash.), Melany Crocker (Sr., Milwaukie, Ore.), Halsie Peek (Soph., Corbett, Ore.) and Lester Maxwell (Sr., Corvallis, Ore.) represented Linfield at the Oregon Twilight, contested at historic Hayward Field in Eugene.

LaBeaume placed ninth in the hammer with a maximum toss of 159 feet, 3 inches (48.53 meters).

Peek took fourth in Section 1 of the 100-meter dash, clocking in a 12.71 seconds. Crocker ran in the second, faster heat and took seventh (12.77). Crocker also competed in the 200 meters, completing the half-lap in 26.29 seconds.

Maxwell took ninth in the 800 meters (1:55.77).

Jill Boroughs (Sr., Kent, Wash.) and Morgunn Ewing (Soph., Bothell, Wash.) took their talents to Lincoln Park Stadium in Forest Grove for the Pacific Twilight.

Boroughs finished ninth in the 5,000 meters (19:31.47) and Ewing placed fifth in the javelin (178-00/54.25m).

COMING UP: The final opportunity for athletes to qualify for the national championship meet is the George Fox Final Qualifier, scheduled for Friday, May 17.
