Linfield College pitcher Shelby VandeBergh (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) has been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District 8 Softball Team.
The Academic All-District teams are nominated and selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
VandeBergh has enjoyed a productive junior year in the pitching circle as well as in the classroom. A finance and mass communication major, she maintains a 3.86 grade point average.
On the diamond, VandeBergh achieved a 12-3 win-loss record with a 2.12 earned run average, third-best in the Northwest Conference. Leading the NWC with four shutout victories, she ranks fifth among the league’s pitchers with 64 strikeouts.
Her season included a no-hitter against Puget Sound and a shutout of defending national champion Pacific Lutheran, earning the Jesuit High School graduate NWC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Linfield won the NWC championship by seven games and earned the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Division III playoffs. The 62-team field will be announced Monday by the NCAA.
