Spring Classic washed away

Final Results

BREMERTON, Wash. – Overnight rain, heavy at times, forced cancellation of Sunday’s second round of the Northwest Conference Spring Classic at Gold Mountain Golf Course.

Saturday’s first-round scores were declared final and the nine competing programs were sent their separate ways.

Linfield sat in third place after the first round, trailing Whitworth and Pacific Lutheran.

The Spring Classic is one of three major tournaments that count toward determining the NWC’s 2012-13 team champion and NCAA Tournament automatic qualifier. The Fall Classic and Spring Classic count 25 percent toward the point total while the NWC Tournament is weighted 50 percent.

The updated point standings with points from the Spring Classic applied show Whitworth leading with 16 points, followed by Pacific Lutheran (13), Puget Sound (12), Linfield (10½), Whitman (7½), Willamette (7), George Fox (2), Lewis & Clark (2) and Pacific (2).

After one final tuneup at the Willamette Cup April 14, Linfield and the rest of the NWC reconvene at the NWC Championships, April 20-21, at OGA Course in Woodburn. Linfield is the two-time defending champion.
