JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. – With only one player consistently scoring in the 70s across all three rounds, the Linfield Wildcats limped to a 14th place finish Tuesday at the 15-team West Cup, hosted by the University of La Verne at Goose Creek Golf Club.

Freshman Adam Ruben (Fr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) provided the one bright spot for the Wildcats. Ruben followed up Monday’s scores of 76-72 with a 78 on Tuesday and 226 overall, good for a share of 37th place.

Linfield’s Ryan Nolan (Soph., Tigard, Ore.) tied for 63rd place, shooting 75-79-80 to end at 234. Taylor Klopp (Soph., Eugene, Ore.) was 71st with scores of 76-79-82 and a total of 237. A.J. Taylor (Jr., Kirkland, Wash.) tied for 72nd at 81-78-79-238 and Taylor Pirnke (Soph., Mill Creek, Wash.) was six strokes back at 84-78-82-244, finishing 81st.

As a team, Linfield shot round of 308 and 307 on Monday, then turned in the highest round of any team on Tuesday of 319. That prevented the Wildcats from gaining any ground in the team standings.

David Gazzaolo of UC-Riverside won the event by one stroke, carding 71-66-70-207. La Verne and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps shared the team title with matching scores of 880.

NEXT: Linfield heads to the NWC Spring Classic April 7-8 to face its conference counterparts in a match that counts 25 percent toward determining the 2012-13 team champion. The Spring Classic is set to be contested at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.
