ORANGE, Calif. – Scoring at will while holding their opponent to just one goal in each half, the Chapman University Panthers trampled the Linfield Wildcats 25-2 in a women’s lacrosse match Monday at Harris Field.
Chapman’s Victoria Wilkinson scored four times, one of six Panthers with at least two goals in the match.
Linfield senior Brittani Drost (Sr., Forest Grove, Ore.) needed just 17 seconds to score the first goal of the match, but Chapman followed that by pocketing 16 unanswered goals. Only a tally by Shelby Duarte (Soph., San Ramon, Calif.) at the 16:24 mark of the second half on a play set up by Nichole Thoens (Soph., Oregon City, Ore.) served to interrupt the Panthers’ scoring skein.
Wildcats goalkeeper Erika Phillipo (Fr., Eugene, Ore.) returned to the net after being sidelined for the last four matches with an injury. Chapman (9-3) peppered Phillipo with a whopping 44 shots but the freshman made 11 saves, including eight in the first half.
AHEAD: After a day off to recoup, the Wildcats face the Whittier Poets Wednesday night at 6 o’clock.
