In recognition of her four-win showing at the Wildcat Open this past weekend, Linfield sprinter Halsie Peek (Soph., Corbett, Ore.) has been honored as the Northwest Conference Women’s Track Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday following a vote of the league’s sports information directors.
Peek captured a pair of individual events and ran on two winning relay teams at her third outdoor meet of the season. Her times in both the 100-meter dash (12.96 seconds) and the 200 (27.14) were season bests, a fact that hopefully overshadows the reality that she technically tied for first in both events based on time.
Among Northwest Conference competitors this season, Peek’s best marks rank fourth (100) and eighth (200). She placed fifth and eighth, respectively, at the league championship meet last April.
At the Wildcat Open, Peek also ran the second leg on the Wildcats’ winning 4x100 relay team (50.59) and anchored the 4x400 relay (4:09.97) in a season-best time for Linfield.
Only a sophomore, Peek already holds down the No. 4 spot on Linfield’s all-time list of 100-meter dash performances. Her name also appears in the record books as a member of the fastest 4x100 relay quartet in program history (48.61).
This is the first career weekly conference award for Peek. She joins teammates Melany Crocker (Sr., Milwaukie, Ore.) and Anna LaBeaume (Jr., Sequim, Wash.) as the two other Linfield honorees this season.
NEXT: Peek and the rest of the Wildcats compete in the two-day Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open, contested March 22-23 at the Eldon Fix Track in Portland.
