SALEM, Ore. – Taylor Klopp (Soph., Eugene, Ore.) paced the Linfield Wildcats with a 3-over-par 75 during the first round of action Monday at the Corban Invitational at Creekside Golf Club.
The eight competing teams were expected to play 36 holes on Monday and another 18 on Tuesday but a 2½-hour frost delay in the morning prevented all teams from beginning their rounds. The second round and third rounds are expected to be completed Tuesday.
Klopp shot 38 on the front nine and 37 on the back nine, landing in a tie for eighth place, two strokes back in a tightly contested tournament field. Three competitors share the first-round lead: Dylan Morrison of North Idaho, and Kolton Kyne and Jess Wingett, both from Concordia-Portland. Three others stand deadlocked for fourth place.
Linfielder Ryan Nolan (Soph., Tigard, Ore.) carded a 41-39-80 to share 20th place and Kyle Hargrave (Fr., Clackamas, Ore.) was one stroke back, scoring 38-43-81. Adrian Koza (Fr., Portland, Ore.) held a portion of 24th place at 39-44-83 and Thomas Arand (Soph., McMinnville, Ore.) was 41-46-87, tied for 35th place.
North Idaho leads the pack with a first-round team total of 296, two strokes better than Concordia-Portland. Host Corban is third at 318, just ahead of Linfield’s 319.
NEXT: Action resumes at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.
