Just days after recording his first collegiate complete-game victory, Chris Haddeland (Soph., McMinnville, Ore.) scored another career first with his selection as the Northwest Conference Baseball Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week.
The honor was announced following a vote of the league’s sports information directors on Tuesday, the same day the D3baseball.com released its Top 25 poll. It in, the Wildcats climbed seven spots from last week, 22nd to 15th.
In Game 1 against Pacific – the NWC opener – Haddeland went the distance on the mound, tying a career high with eight strikeouts against three walks. He surrendered just four hits, only one of which went for extra bases, and neither of the Boxers’ runs were earned.
Haddeland improved to 2-1 with the victory, and lowered his season ERA to 1.23 through 22 innings pitched. He is the team leader in strikeouts (18) and ranks among the top nine in the league for both strikeouts and ERA. As a staff, Linfield’s pitchers boast the NWC’s lowest earned run average at 1.10 and have allowed the fewest number of hits (60).
With their sweep over Pacific, the ‘Cats continued their hot start to the year, winning 10 of their first 11 games. The No. 15 ranking is the club’s highest since Week 5 of the 2012 season.
NEXT: Following a mid-week (Tuesday) nonconference bout with Division II Montana State-Billings, Linfield hits the pavement for its first true road series of the year against Willamette. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 11 a.m., while Sunday's single game begins at noon.
