On the heels of a record-setting 11-1 season, four Linfield College football players have earned All-America honors for outstanding play.
Headlining the group is defensive end Brynnan Hyland (Jr., Eugene, Ore.), who garnered first team All-America honors from both the American Football Coaches Association and d3football.com
Hyland keyed a Linfield defense that led NCAA Division III in sacks (5.25 per game) and tackles for loss (10.75 per game). The rangy junior led NCAA Division III with 17½ sacks and finished with the second-highest sack total among athletes from all four divisions of NCAA.
Linebacker Dominique Forrest (Jr., Portland, Ore.), the 2012 Northwest Conference and West Region Defensive Player of the Year, was a second team All-American by d3football.com after leading the ‘Cats in tackles (79) and interceptions (4) and recording three sacks.
Offensive guard Drew Wert (Sr., Grants Pass, Ore.), who captained a potent offense that finished led the Northwest Conference and ranked 10th nationally in scoring offense at 40.3 points per game, joined Forrest on the d3football.com second team.
Quarterback Mickey Inns (Sr., Gresham, Ore.) was appointed to the d3football.com All-America fourth team. Inns was named the 2012 Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year after completing 60 percent of his passes (253 of 416). His 3,288 passing yards ranked eighth nationally and his 30 touchdowns were the 11th highest total in Division III.
Linfield finished the 2012 season ranked No. 5 in Division III, winning the program’s fourth straight NWC championship and advancing to the national quarterfinals before falling 31-24 in overtime to No. 4 Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Wildcats extended the program’s renowned streak of consecutive winning seasons to 57, the most in the history of college football at all levels.
