McMINNVILLE, Ore. – In addition to battling for crucial points in a tight race for its first-ever Northwest Conference championship, this weekend the Linfield women’s soccer team turns its attention toward breast cancer awareness with a pair of “Think Pink” matches.
For both Saturday’s and Sunday’s noon contests against Lewis & Clark and rival Willamette, the Wildcats encourage fans to wear pink to show support for breast cancer research and the thousands of individuals and families touched by this disease. Players from both teams will don pink armbands over their jersey sleeves in a show of unity for the cause, and the Wildcats will also wear pink socks.
On Sunday, students from Linfield’s Zeta Tau Alpha chapter will assist with the “pink out” by handing out pink ribbons to spectators. Representatives from the sorority also plan to set up a table just inside the main entrance to the soccer stadium with information about breast cancer, including prevention strategies and resources for patients and loved ones.
All fans are invited to participate in a halftime game of knockout at Sunday’s match, with the winner receiving a prize pack provided by the Linfield athletic department.
Admission to the match is free, but fans are encouraged to donate to ZTA’s fund for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, held Sunday, Oct. 21 in Eugene.
With a 360-degree approach to empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find a cure for breast cancer, Komen Oregon has spent the past 20 years providing of thousands of low-income women access to critical screening and treatment. Seventy-five percent of funds raised locally are used to provide services in Oregon in Southwest Washington.
