McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Chris Lumsden of George Fox scored an even-par 72 to win Thursday’s Linfield Invitational by one stroke on a warm afternoon at Michelbook Country Club.
Linfield’s Taylor Klopp (Soph., Eugene, Ore.) and Connor Magnuson (Soph., Albany, Ore.), along with Cody Johnson of Concordia-Portland, finished in a three-way standoff for second place, all at 73.
In addition to Klopp and Magnuson, Wildcat A.J. Taylor (Jr., Kirkland, Wash.) also earned a spot among the top 10, placing seventh with a 4-over 76.
Concordia-Portland won the five-team event with a 13-over-par 301, edging Linfield in the team standings by three strokes. The Cavaliers placed four golfers among the top-10 finishers.
Corban, led by Jared Lambert’s 74, placed third at 308.
Linfield’s second unit, fueled by a solid 77 from Taylor Pirnke (Soph., Mill Creek, Wash.), earned fourth place at 315, eight strokes in front of George Fox.
Though Lumsden was the individual leader, the Bruins’ next closest finisher, Aleks Gabrio, was nine strokes back at 81.
COMING UP: Linfield treks to eastern Washington for the 36-hole Whitman Invitational, Sunday and Monday, at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla.
