For the second straight week, Emily Fellows (Jr., Portland, Ore.) has been honored as the Northwest Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league’s sports information directors.
One day removed from receiving the first player of the week award of the season, Fellows recorded her fifth career hat trick and added an assist to lead Linfield to a dominant 6-0 victory over visiting Warner Pacific College. She scored her successive goals in a multitude of ways, knocking in a header off a corner kick, tapping in a 10-yard shot and finishing with her non-dominant (left) foot from 10 yards out.
Fellows followed up that performance by scoring the Wildcats’ lone goal in a 1-0 double-overtime victory at Trinity Lutheran College. It was her second game winner of the year, and helped Linfield secure its first victory on the road and first overtime win.
Through just four matches, Fellows has already totaled six goals. She leads the Northwest Conference in goals, points (13), shots (22), shots on goal (16) and game-winning goals (2).
This is the sixth student-athlete of the week honor for Fellows, who the 2010 NWC Player of the Year and holds program records in nearly every statistical offensive category, including goal-scoring standards for a single match (4), single season (26) and career (39).
As a team, the Wildcats are 4-0 on the year, including an upset of then 16th-ranked Cal Lutheran, and have outscored their opponents 15-1. In the latest rankings, released Tuesday, Linfield is tabbed as the fourth-best club in the West and received votes in the national poll.
COMING UP: Linfield opens NWC action with a home match against Pacific Saturday afternoon, beginning at noon.
