ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – With a balanced attack at the net and solid defense in the back row, the Linfield Wildcats pocketed two more wins Saturday at the Bethel Invitational, defeating Northland (Wis.) in three sets and Carleton (Minn.) in five.
Linfield went 3-1 at the tournament while improving to 5-2 for the season. The ‘Cats first administered a 25-18, 25-11, 25-23 sweep of Northland before surviving a taut 25-19, 25-23, 19-25, 13-25, 15-12 slugfest over Carleton.
Three Wildcats produced double-digit kills to help Linfield hand Carleton (6-1) its first defeat of the season. Kailana Ritte-Camara (Jr., Molokai, Hawaii) led the way with 16 kills and a .218 hitting percentage, Kelsey Ludin (Sr., Bozeman, Mont.) and Victoria Thompson (Jr., Newberg, Ore.) each had a dozen kills, and setter Audrey Frazier (Jr., Albany, Ore.) spread around 51 assists while nabbing 17 digs.
The Wildcats piled up 92 digs in the match, including 22 from libero Courtney Wanamaker (Jr., West Linn, Ore.), 19 from Ritte-Camara and 14 more by Bethany Dickey.
Against Northland, the Wildcats rode crisp serving to the victory. Ludin, Frazier and Leimomi Hookano all contributed two service aces in the contest, part of nine point-producing serves in the contest.
Shayli Coppock (Sr., Temecula, Calif) pouced on Northland for seven kills, Ludin contributed six kills and had a hand in two blocks, and Ritte-Camara picked up five kills on 11 swings.
Northland managed a paltry .027 accuracy at the net, a season-low figure for a Linfield opponent this season.
Ritte-Camara and Frazier were appointed to the all-tournament team. Ritte-Camara averaged 2.62 kills per set while hitting 242. Frazier totaled 78 assists (9.75 per set) while adding four kills, two aces, 24 digs and three block assists.
COMING UP: Linfield begins Northwest Conference play with three straight home matches. Friday, the Wildcats entertain the Willamette Bearcats before hosting Lewis & Clark Saturday night. The following Friday, the ‘Cats welcome nationally Pacific Lutheran to Ted Wilson Gym. All three contests start at 7 p.m.
