NEW ORLEANS – Newly crowned national pole vault champion Catherine Street has been honored as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Women’s Field Athlete of the Year, as announced Thursday.
The senior Wildcat performed double duty this season, capturing both the outdoor and indoor national titles. Her most recent achievement at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships in Claremont, Calif., was 13 feet, 9¼ inches in the making. Half an inch off her personal and program record – which was also briefly the divisional all-time record earlier this year – the vault was enough to win the event and set a new national championship meet standard.
Street’s other accomplishments this season? Winning the indoor national title, claiming her fourth Northwest Conference individual championship, sharing the NWC Female Field Athlete of the Year Award, becoming a seven-time All-American, and graduating from Linfield College with a nursing degree.
