All-region cross country performer and Linfield College Dean’s List mainstay Joe Gladow (Sr., Shoreline, Wash.) has been named to the 2012 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District VIII Men’s Track/Cross Country Team, as announced Thursday by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America.
Gladow has maintained a 3.93 grade point average as a double major in economics and international relations. He is a recipient of the prestigious Kemper Scholarship, awarded to just 20 college students nationwide, and is a member of Linfield’s chapter of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, an association reserved for students who have achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher and are in the top 20 percent of their class during their first year.
Earlier this year, the sophomore was recognized as a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic honoree.
As far as athletic pursuits go, Gladow has achieved an equally high level of success. In the fall, he earned all-region accolades by finishing 31st at the NCAA West Regional. He had previously placed 22nd at the NWC Championships.
This track season, he was a top-eight finisher in both the 5,000 and the 10,000 at the NWC Championships, taking sixth and seventh, respectively. Throughout the season, Gladow recorded season-best times in the 1,500 (4:13, 45), the 5,000 (15:36.20) and the 10,000 (32:47.85).
The District VIII All-Academic Team, selected by CoSIDA members, was chosen from a pool of nominees from Division III programs locted in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Kansa, Louisana, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and Canada.
First team all-district honorees are automatically considered for the Academic All-America team, which will be voted upon and announced later this month.
