NEW ORLEANS – As if there was any more room on her already extensive resume or extra space on an undoubtedly stocked trophy shelf, Linfield pole vaulter Catherine Street has been honored as the 2012 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association West Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year, as announced Friday.

Street, an NCAA indoor champion, six-time All-American and four-time Northwest Conference titlist, set the Division III all-time record in the pole vault earlier this year, clearing the bar at 13 feet, 9¾ inches. Though she held the standard for less than 24 hours before it was eclipsed by Moravian foe and reigning outdoor national champion Abigail Schaffer, Street’s performance solidified her position as one of the nation’s all-time greats.

The senior looks to cap off her career with a second national crown, this one for outdoor competition, at the upcoming NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at the Burns Track Complex in Claremont, Calif. The pole vault competition is scheduled for Saturday, May 26, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
