For the second time this season, Staci Doucette has been honored as the Northwest Conference Women’s Softball Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league’s sports information directors.
Doucette clobbered a pair of home runs and hit .455 (5-for-11) as Linfield took three of four games against Willamette to clinch the Wildcats' ninth consecutive NWC regular-season championship. She tallied six RBI, drew three walks, stole two bases and reached another career milestone with 500 total bases. Defensively, the senior was perfect in 23 chances at first base.
She concluded the regular season with a .514 batting average, 17 home runs, 54 RBI, 1.067 slugging percentage, seven stolen bases and a .995 fielding average. Doucette led the conference in batting average, hits, home runs, RBI, total bases, walks, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
Among Division III competition, she ranked first in both home runs and RBI. Her NCAA-leading career home run total now stands at 70.
No. 1 Linfield recorded its eighth consecutive 30-win season and heads into the second annual Northwest Conference Softball Tournament as the top seed with a 34-3 overall record. All three of the Wildcats’ losses have come to league opponents: twice to Pacific Lutheran and once to George Fox.
The conference tournament is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Del Smith Stadium in McMinnville. Game 1 between Linfield and George Fox is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday morning. More information about the tournament can be found here.
