Puget Sound stops Linfield in its tracks

TACOMA, Wash. – The triple threat of Grace Reid, Julie Schulman and Kristine Morris proved too much for the Linfield Wildcats, who fell 21-10 to Puget Sound in a season-ending match Sunday on the Loggers' home field.

Reid, Schulman and Morris each scored five goals and Reid set up another score for the Loggers, who outshot the ‘Cats 42-25.

Taylor Fisher and Mariah Jones both scored two goals while adding an assist. Erika Helm-Buckman and Brittani Drost (Sr., Forest Grove, Ore.)  tallied twice for Linfield. Zooey Spring and Halee Helgerson (Soph., Milwaukie, Ore) also registered goals on the scoresheet.

Linfield netminder Tori Kraft was credited with 10 saves.

The Wildcats scooped 21 ground balls to the Loggers’ 16. Helm-Buckman, a senior playing her final match, had a match-high four ground balls. Tessa D'Allessandro contributed three ground balls.

The teams began the match by trading goals through the first seven minutes. UPS scored seven unanswered goals during an eight-minute stretch of the first half to take a commanding 11-5 lead at the break.

The loss dropped the Wildcats to 1-7 for the season.
