McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Sisters Kaila Nip (Soph., Lahaina, Hawaii) and Kiana Nip finished out the season with a perfect record in both singles and doubles against Northwest Conference opponents to help Linfield similarly close out an undefeated season in league play with a 7-2 victory over Puget Sound Friday afternoon at the Linfield Tennis Center.

This marks the seventh perfect conference record over the past decade for the Wildcats (12-4, 12-0 NWC), who secured the top seed in the upcoming NWC Tournament. The Loggers (8-9, 6-6 NWC) must await the outcome of Willamette’s final two matches to see if they have earned a spot in the tournament.

Playing at No. 3 singles, Kaila blanked Puget Sound’s Logan Thompson 6-0, 6-0 to earn her 12th victory of the year. Kiana matched her younger sister’s single-season win total with her 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Maddie Thiesse at No. 5 singles.

The sibling tandem also paired for an 8-3 victory over Thompson and Marissa Friedman in the second doubles flight.

Abby Olbrich and Caroline Brigham (Jr., Eagle, Idaho) each reached double digits in singles victories for the season with their wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Olbrich toppled Maddison Holtz 6-3, 6-0 while Brigham pinned Jenna Gerdsen 6-1, 6-2.

The West region’s seventh-ranked doubles pair, Olbrich and Brigham recorded an 8-2 win over Holtz and Josephine Dow at No. 1 doubles.

Puget Sound earned its points at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles. Dow rallied against Lexi Thomas (Sr., Redding, Calif.) for a three-set victory by a score of 1-6, 6-3, 10-6. Earlier in the afternoon, Thiesse and Ada Yu picked off Thomas and Kelly Watanabe (Soph., Kirkland, Wash.) 8-5.

Watanabe got the best of her Logger opponent in singles, scoring a 6-1, 6-3 win over Friedman in the sixth flight.

Linfield's two seniors - Olbrich and Kiana  Nip - were honored before the match.

NEXT: The ‘Cats host the four-team conference tournament next Saturday and Sunday in McMinnville. Their opponent is still to be determined.
