In recognition of her heroics in Linfield’s Game 1 victory over Pacific Lutheran this past weekend, Jordan Mixsell has been recognized as the Northwest Conference Softball Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league’s sports information directors.
Mixsell, a two-year starter in right field, smacked the game-winning home run to lead the top-ranked Wildcats to a slim 7-6 win over the seventh-ranked Lutes in the opening game of Sunday’s doubleheader.
In taking two road games from Pacific Lutheran, eight-time defending NWC champion Linfield reclaimed the lead in the conference team standings with two weekends remaining in the regular season before the second annual championship tournament, hosted by the regular season’s top team.
Over the past six games, Mixsell registered a .375 batting average with four RBI and nine total bases. For the season, she is hitting .351 with three doubles, five home runs, 21 RBI and 45 total bases. She has stolen three bases and has a .857 fielding percentage.
This is the first career weekly honor for the senior, but the fifth of the year for the Wildcats.
NEXT: Linfield (28-2, 18-2 NWC) hosts fourth-place George Fox (16-13, 11-6) in a four-game series Friday and Saturday in at Del Smith Stadium. Friday’s doubleheader begins at 4 p.m. while Saturday’s twinbill is scheduled for noon.
