Perennial All-American, NCAA Division III career home runs leader and Linfield first baseman Staci Doucette has been recognized as the Northwest Conference Softball Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league’s sports information directors.
Doucette led the top-ranked Wildcats in the first half of a 10-game road trip to southern California, hitting .647 (11-for-17) with four home runs, one double, eight RBI and 24 total bases. She came up big in Linfield's narrow 2-1 victory over No. 13 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, hitting 3-for-3 and scoring the winning run. Doucette was also perfect defensively over the six-game stretch, registering a 1.000 fielding percentage in 37 chances at first base.
Through 24 games this season, Doucette is hitting .500 with a team-leading 33 RBI. She leads the nation in home runs with 11 on the year, and recently set the national record for career home runs, totaling 64 in her time as a Wildcat. She is a three-time NFCA all-region and All-America performer, two-time Northwest Conference Player of the Year and holds multiple single-season and career records at Linfield.
The ‘Cats, who reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the national polls this past week, are 22-2 on the year, including 14-2 in the Northwest Conference, and are riding a 10-game win streak. Linfield’s only two losses this season have come at the hands of NWC foe Pacific Lutheran.
COMING UP: The Wildcats wrap up their Spring Break trip with a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader at Redlands. Northwest Conference action resumes Saturday and Sunday with road doubleheaders at Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran.
