Wildcats' spiral continues

LONGVIEW, Texas – Wrapping up its five-match tour of east Texas and northwest Louisiana, the Linfield Wildcats were defeated 7-2 by LeTourneau Monday afternoon on the YellowJackets’ home court.

Linfield’s Ian Rapport earned his first singles win of the season. The senior bested LeTourneau’s Will Cazares 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 at No. 5 singles.

The Wildcats' second team point came at No. 1 doubles, where Linfield’s top tandem of Cody Levien and Zach Lyons bumped off the Jackets’ Carlos Cantu and Josh Bailey by an 8-3 count.

In other doubles action, LeTourneau’s Sindre Johnsgaard and Kendall Beggs downed Micah Roos (Soph., Port Angeles, Wash.) and Luke Kleinman 8-6 at No. 2, and Taylor Gregoire teamed with Cazares for an 8-2 result over Rapport and Bryce Borland at No. 3.

In singles play, Cantu took down Levien at No. 1 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, and Johnsgaard breezed by Lyons, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.

Beggs stopped Roos 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, Bailey handled Kleinman 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4, and Gregoire was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at No. 6.

LeTourneau, sporting the best overall record of any men’s program in the American Southwest Conference, improved to 12-2 for the season. Linfield slumped to 2-12.

AHEAD: The Wildcats return to Northwest Conference play on Sunday when they visit Lewis & Clark at 1 p.m.
