CLAYTON, Mo. – Missouri Baptist held leading scorer Mariah Jones without a goal and the host Spartans outshot Linfield 39-23 en route to a 17-10 victory Monday afternoon at Gay Field.
Zooey Spring scored four times and Taylor Fisher netted three goals for the Wildcats, who remained winless on the season (0-4).
Erika Helm-Buckman added two goals and Brittani Drost scored another for the Wildcats, who are in Missouri for two matches during spring break.
Jones set up two goals while Fisher and Rebecca Kropp (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) each assisted on one goal.
Vanessa Kretzler scored six goals to pace Missouri Baptist.
The Wildcats were in within three goals at 9-6 following Helm-Buckman’s tally with 1:31 left in the first half, but the Spartans scored the game’s next five goals to surge in front. Spring scored two of her four goals in a 10-minute span of the second half.
Defender Megan Kearns scooped up seven ground balls and Helm-Buckman contributed five for the ‘Cats.
