SHREVEPORT, La. – Unable to sustain early momentum, Linfield dropped a 7-2 decision to Centenary of Louisiana Thursday afternoon.
The Wildcats grabbed a 2-1 lead after posting wins in two of the three doubles. But the Gents answered with a clean sweep of all six singles flights to collect the team victory.
Linfield won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. In the top flight, Cody Levien and Zach Lyons teamed up for an 8-6 result over Centenary’s Sam Grace and Evan Magill. At No. 3, the Wildcats’ newly formed doubles tandem of Ben Brewer (Soph., Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Ian Rapport forged an 8-4 outcome over John Reeks and Cameron Bueche.
The ‘Cats nearly earned a sweep of doubles, but Garrett Whipple and Michael Reeks prevailed 9-8 over Micah Roos (Soph., Port Angeles, Wash.) and Luke Kleinman at No. 2.
In singles action, Grace powered past Levien 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1. Lyons battled to a third set before falling 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 to Whipple at No. 2. Magill topped Roose 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3, Michael Reeks downed Kleinman 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4, John Reeks defeated Brewer 7-6, 6-3 at No. 5, and Alex Savoie took care of Rapport, 7-5, 6-1 at No. 6.
Levien and Lyons improved to 7-3 in doubles play, all at No. 1. The Wildcats, meanwhile, dropped to 2-8 for the season.
