Anna LaBeaume (Sr., Sequim, Wash.) has been honored as the Northwest Conference Women’s Field Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league’s sports information directors.
LaBeaume won the shot put and placed second in two other events at the Pacific Preview, then turned around the next day and recorded a pair of top-five finishes at the Oregon Preview. She won the shot with a season-best toss (41-3.75/12.59m), was second in both the discus (season-best 112-11/34.41m) and the hammer throw (146-09/44.74m).
Competing at Hayward Field, LaBeaume improved upon her No. 4 mark in the Linfield record books in the hammer throw with a career-best toss of 150 feet, 4 inches (45.82m). She also took fifth in the shot put (38-10.25/11.84).
The sophomore has qualified for the Northwest Conference Championships in three throwing events; she holds the top marks in the shot put and hammer throw as well as the fifth-best throw in the discus. Among all Division III competitors, she holds the sixth-best mark in the shot put and the 10th-best in the hammer. She is the defending NWC champion in the shot put and finished 12th in the same event at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships last year.
As far as the Linfield record books are concerned, in addition to holding the fourth-best mark in the hammer throw, LaBeaume also ranks No. 4 all-time for the shot put with a heave of 44 feet, 9 ½ inches.
AHEAD: Linfield kicks off Spring Break by competing at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open this Friday and Saturday at the Eldon Fix Track in Portland. The Wildcats then host the Linfield Decathlon/Heptathlon next Monday and Tuesday at Maxwell Field.
