For the second time this season, Karina Paavola (Jr., Kelso, Wash.) has been honored as the Northwest Conference Softball Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league’s sports information directors.
The sophomore right-hander threw a complete game no-hitter, her second of the year, to lead the Wildcats to an 8-0 victory over Lewis & Clark. In two appearances over the weekend, she posted a 0.00 ERA with 13 strikeouts against just two walks. An honorable mention all-league selection last season, Paavola (8-1) leads the team and the conference with 55 strikeouts on the year.
Fourth-ranked Linfield bounced back from its first losses of the year to defeat Lewis & Clark and Pacific twice each by a combined score of 41-5. The 'Cats are tied for first in the NWC team standings with a 14-2 league record, 16-2 overall.
UP NEXT: Ten games over six days in southern California await the Wildcats. The Spring Break trip begins with a doubleheader at Cal Lutheran, followed by contests against Chapman, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, La Verne and Redlands.
