After reaching career milestones in both singles and doubles competition over the past two weeks, Abby Olbrich received her due this week with her recognition as the Northwest Conference Women’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week. The honor was announced Tuesday by the league’s sports information directors.
Competing at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, Olbrich went 5-1 on the week, her only loss coming in doubles to an opponent from Division I Portland State by a close score of 8-6. She defeated her Viking opponent in singles 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. The senior, ranked fifth in the West, won her 50th career singles match to help the Linfield defeat defending regular season champion Whitworth and currently enjoys a seven-match win streak.
The previous week, Olbrich recorded her 50th career doubles victory; her record now stands at 52-20, with the 52 wins tied for seventh-most all-time in Linfield history. Her career singles record (51-18) is ninth-best.
By virtue of their victory over Whitworth, the Wildcats are now the only undefeated team in Northwest Conference action at 9-0. Their only loss this season came at the hands of Portland State, a Division I opponent.
NEXT: Linfield has a week off from competition before traveling to southern California at the tail end of Spring Break for a trio of matches against nationally-ranked opponents: No. 9 Middlebury, No. 8 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and No. 27 UC-Santa Cruz.
