For the second week running, Alex Fitch has been recognized as the Northwest Conference Men’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league’s sports information directors.
Fitch shared medalist honors at the Pacific Invitational and finished tied for second at the Texas Lutheran Intercollegiate Invitational. At Pacific, he carded back-to-back rounds of 73 to lead Linfield to the team title and win his fifth medal of the 2011-12 season. Down in Texas, he shaved six strokes off his first round score on Day 2 to vault from 15th place to a share of second in the final standings.
The Wildcats sit in second place in the current Northwest Conference team standings, finishing behind Puget Sound at the NWC Fall Classic, which counts one-fourth toward determining the league champion.
COMING UP: After a week of respite for Spring Break, Linfield resumes play at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic March 31-April 1. The two-day tournament, one of three major events that determine the NWC team champion, is hosted by Whitman College at the Wildhorse Golf Course near Pendleton.
