Boxers pull away, top Wildcats 18-8

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Pacific Boxers broke open a tight contest with an 11-3 surge in the second half on its way to an 18-8 victory over the Linfield Wildcats on a wet and windy Wednesday night at the water-logged Linfield lacrosse field.

Balanced scoring by the Boxers (2-2) allowed the visitors to pull away from the Wildcats (0-3). Melanie Niehus, Carmen Taplin and Amy Mayhugh all had four goals and Kristen Dick added two for Pacific, which outshot its regional neighbor 35-16.

Mariah Jones scored four goals, Zooey Spring had a pair and Taylor Fisher and Halee Helgerson (Soph., Milwaukie, Ore) each added another for the Wildcats. Fisher set up two goals, while Jones, Brittani Drost (Sr., Forest Grove, Ore.) and Spring each picked up assists.

Ali Loeb was credited with three saves in goal for Pacific. Linfeild’s Tori Kraft made eight stops.

Tessa D’Allesandro recorded a match-high five ground balls for the Wildcats. Kasey Killingbeck scooped up four ground balls for the Boxers.

NEXT: The Wildcats head to the Show Me State for two matches during Spring Break. On March 26, Linfield visits Missouri Baptist before meeting Fontbonne in St. Louis the following day.
