McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Piling up straight-sets victories in all six singles matchups, eighth-ranked Whitman blanked Linfield 9-0 Sunday inside Rutschman Fieldhouse.
The defending Northwest Conference champion Missionaries remained perfect against league opposition at 6-0 while improving to 10-3 overall. The host Wildcats slipped to 2-4 in the NWC and 2-5 overall.
Though Whitman also swept the three doubles pairings, Linfield’s top duo of Cody Levien and Zach Lyons put together a resilient effort against the tandem of Andrew La Cava and Adriel Borshansky. The two Missionaries handed Levien and Lyons their first doubles defeat of the year, spoiling a five-match winning streak.
Linfield also was in contention at No. 2 doubles, where Whitman’s Steven Roston and Colton Malesovas defeated Micah Roos (Soph., Port Angeles, Wash.) and Luke Kleinman 8-4. Dylan Bodet and Matt Tesmond of Whitman cruised by Linfield frosh Ben Brewer (Soph., Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Joel Trousdale (Soph., Hillsboro, Ore.) 8-2 at No. 3.
La Cava and Levien went head-to-head at No. 1 singles with La Cava prevailing 6-1, 6-2. Borshansky edged Lyons 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2, and Roston topped Roos 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
The lower tiers played out like the upper ones. Malesovas downed Kleinman 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4, Tesmond got the better of Brewer, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5, and Bodet set down Ian Rapport 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.
