GRINNELL, Iowa – Expectations are high for Linfield pole vaulter Catherine Street, who has sights set on nothing short of an individual crown at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, hosted this weekend at Grinnell College’s Charles Benson Bear Recreation and Athletic Center.
The three-time indoor All-American enters competition with the highest mark of her fellow competitors at 13 feet, 9 ¼ inches (4.20 meters). She achieved that standard, an NCAA DIII record, in February of this year to win the event at the University of Washington Indoor Open.
No stranger to the pressures of national competition, Street has placed in the top eight at the indoor championships each of the past three seasons, including a third-place effort last year.
In addition to the ever-increasing height of the pole vault bar, her stiffest human competition is likely be defending champion Abigail Schaffer of Moravian, who enters the meet with a top mark of 13-1.75 (4.01m).
The women’s pole vault competition is scheduled for Friday afternoon at noon (CST). Live stats will be available here.
