Fitch is NWC golfer of the week
March 06, 2012

After picking up his fifth career tournament win, Linfield’s Alex Fitch has been honored as the Northwest Conference Men’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league’s sports information directors.

Fitch, a senior, captured medalist honors at the Lutes Invitational, carding a tournament-best 72 on the first day and a 76 over the final 18 holes to finish with a four-over-par 148. He won the invite by one stroke to lead Linfield to the team title over six NWC opponents and one nonconference club.

This is his fourth win of the year after taking home top honors at three matches in the fall: the George Fox Invitational, Pacific Fall Invitational and Linfield Three-Way. The reigning conference player of the year placed fifth at the NWC Fall Classic, one of three “major” tournaments that determine the team title and automatic bid to the national championships.

Fitch has now been recognized as the NWC golfer of the week three times in his career, including twice during the fall season.

COMING UP: The Wildcats travel outside of the Northwest Conference to take on a variety of Division III opponents at the Texas Lutheran Invitational in Blanco, Texas. The two-day match is scheduled for March 12-13 at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club.
