BEAVERTON, Ore. – Not tripped up by a change in venue, the Linfield women’s tennis team solidly defeated George Fox 9-0 Friday afternoon at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.

The match was originally scheduled to take place on the GFU Campus Courts, but was moved indoors in anticipation of rainy weather. With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 3-0 on the season, all Northwest Conference matches. The Bruins, meanwhile, fall to 1-2 and 0-1 in league play.

At No. 1 singles, Abby Olbrich started things off on the right foot, defeating Molly Beaumont by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Coming off the first Northwest Conference loss of her career, Caroline Brigham (Jr., Eagle, Idaho) bounced with a shutout victory over Alyssa Emoto at 6-0, 6-0.

Lexi Thomas (Sr., Redding, Calif.) topped Shaina Inn 6-1, 6-3 and Kaila Nip (Soph., Lahaina, Hawaii) earned the 6-1, 6-0 decision over Cara Griffith. Like Brigham, Kiana Nip also blanked her opponent, Chantelle Hadeed, at 6-0, 6-0. Kelly Watanabe (Soph., Kirkland, Wash.) wrapped up singles action with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Alissandra Wittrig.

Earlier in the afternoon, Linfield easily swept through the doubles matches. Olbrich and Brigham teamed to knock off Beaumont and Inn, 8-1. In the middle flight, the Nip sisterly duo turned away Emoto and Griffith, 8-3.

Thomas and Erin Crofcheck (Soph., Prineville, Ore.) partnered for the first time in the final doubles match, defeating Hadeed and Marissa Chau.
