Fisher earns defensive player of the week honors
October 19, 2011

All-America safety Drew Fisher has been recognized as the Northwest Conference Football Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his stellar backfield coverage that helped Linfield earn a 49-6 victory over Pacific. The honor was announced Tuesday by the league's sports information directors.

Fisher registered a game-high 11 tackles (4 solo, 7 assisted) including three tackles for loss as the No. 5 Wildcats held Pacific to just six points, all on field goals. The senior safety also had an interception, which he returned for 11 yards, and scored a touchdown after a blocked punt. Overall, the Linfield defense held the Boxers to minus-five rushing yards and a season opponent-low 228 total yards of offense.

On the year, Fisher leads the ‘Cats in both total tackles (38) and interceptions (2) and ranks fifth in the NWC at 7.6 tackles per game.

With the victory over Pacific, Linfield extended its national all-divisions record of consecutive winning seasons to 56 and moved one step closer to securing its third straight league title and automatic berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Fisher, a two-time All-American and NWC all-star, is the third Wildcat defensive player to receive the weekly conference honor this season.
