McMINNVILLE, Ore. – With three wins and his first 300-plus yard effort under his belt, Mickey Inns can now add Northwest Conference Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week honors to his list of accomplishments. The award was announced Tuesday by the league’s sports information directors.
Inns, making just his third career start, passed for a career-high 329 yards to lead Linfield to a key NWC victory over the rival Willamette Bearcats, 20-10. With the win, the Wildcats, currently ranked No. 5 in the nation at 3-0, seized control of the conference title race and likely eliminated WU from the NCAA playoff conversation.
The junior quarterback completed 20 of 37 passes to surpass his previous career-best yardage total by 119 yards. A 13-yard touchdown pass gave Linfield a 17-0 lead early in the third quarter, giving the Wildcats some breathing room to withstand a late comeback by the home team. Overall, Inns played well in extremely rainy conditions; his only miscue was a first-quarter interception on a tipped pass.
Inns is the first Linfield football player to receive the weekly conference offensive award this season. Two teammates have already received recognition on the defensive side.
NEXT: The Wildcats host Puget Sound in the annual Homecoming game Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Maxwell Field.
