Oregon Sports Hall of Fame

PORTLAND, Ore. – Quality and integrity – two virtues emphasized for years by retired Linfield football coach Ad Rutschman – were on full display Wednesday night at Multnomah Athletic Club, where four Wildcat football teams were enshrined in the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame before an overflow crowd.
Keynote speaker Brian Jennings, program director of KXL Radio, talked at length about Rutschman and the Linfield football program during his opening remarks. Jennings noted that the quality and integrity long emanating from the Linfield athletic program will never go out of style.
Linfield’s four national championship football teams from 1982, 1984, 1986 and 2004 were welcomed into the Hall of Fame, joining previous Linfield inductees Rutschman, Paul Durham, Roy Helser, Ted Wilson, Scott Brosius, Jack Riley, and the 1966 Wildcats baseball team.
Master of Ceremonies Bill Schonely presented Rutschman and 2004 team members Kelley Bertrand and Eric Hillison with four engraved silver platters, each one honoring a different team's championship season.
On hand for the occasion were longtime Linfield assistant coaches Ted Henry, Ed Langsdorf and Ron August. A contingent of players from the teams of the 1980s were present, including Brad Robins, Mike McAllister, Jason Barber, Dave Lorenz, Rich Moberg, Rob Calhoon, Steve Chase and Steve Boyea.
Rutschman noted one of the primary reasons for Linfield's sustained success was the continuity of his coaching staff that included current major-college coaches Mike Riley, Jay Locey and Wes Suan, in addition to Henry and Langsdorf.
Also ensconced into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame Wednesday were former Oregon football coach Rich Brooks; former major league baseball manager Tom Trebelhorn; Clive Davies, a Masters marathon runner; Kelly Blair-LaBounty, former UO track star and Olympic heptathlete; Les Gutches, a national champion and Olympic wrestler from Oregon State; and Bucky Buckwalter, longtime Trail Blazers executive and coach.
The induction ceremony will be broadcast later on Comcast SportsNetNW.
