McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield freshman Kailana Ritte-Camara (Soph., Molokai, Hawaii) delivered 23 kills and 14 digs to lead the home-standing Wildcats to a five-set Northwest Conference victory over Whitman Saturday night at Ted Wilson Gym.
The 25-21, 19-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-8 victory gave Linfield (5-7, 1-3 NWC) its first conference victory of the season, snapping a three-match losing skid.
Ritte-Camara, a left-handed outside hitter, took 62 swings in the match and finished with a team-best .242 hitting percentage. Wildcats middle blocker Kelsey Ludin (Jr., Bozeman, Mont.) added 11 kills and six digs and Leimomi Hookano (Soph., Kaneohe, Hawaii) chipped in with nine kills and five digs.
Defensively, Samantha Lau rolled up 31 digs and Victoria Thompson (Soph., Newberg, Ore.) had a hand in four blocks for Linfield.
Whitman, led by the 15 kills and six blocks of Courtney Brewer, rallied from a 0-1 deficit in the match to take sets 2 and 3. Linfield was forced to battle back, emerging from a 14-all tie for the three-point victory in the fourth set.
Linfield led from first point to final kill in the deciding set, as Ritte-Camara pounded five kills to close out the Missionaries (1-9, 0-4 NWC).
Annie Sing totaled a match-high 32 digs for Whitman and Taylor Aschenbrenner passed around 32 assists. Jillian Davis struck for three service aces in a losing cause.
NEXT: The Wildcats step outside the conference with a Wednesday night match against Northwest Christian. First serve at Ted Wilson Gym is set for 7 o’clock.
