Linfield’s Tim Wilson (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) and Cole Bixenman have been named to D3baseball.com’s All-America Team, as announced Wednesday.
Both players were first team all-Northwest Conference selections and Bixenman was selected as the 2011 NWC Player of the Year. The two were key members of a Linfield club that went 33-11, including 20-4 in the league, to win its third conference title in four years and advance to the NCAA regional playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Wilson was named to the second team as an outfielder. In his rookie season, he led the Wildcats in batting average (.490) and slugging percentage (.716) and co-led the team in stolen bases (19). He managed this despite not becoming a regular starter until the second half of the season.
Bixenman, a three-year starter, was named to the third team at catcher. On the year, he hit .351 while leading the team in RBI (45), total bases (105) and home runs (10). He recorded 21 multiple-hit games and ranked second on the team in slugging percentage at .625.
The senior graduates as Linfield all-time leader in career RBIs (167) and is tied for the most career home runs (32).
Third baseman Chad Mullins of Case Western Reserve was chosen as the D3baseball.com Player of the Year and Marietta’s Brian Gasser was selected as the D3baseball.com Pitcher of the Year. As the nation’s top-ranked club, Marietta is the favorite to win the 2011 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.
The D3Baseball.com All-America Team is composed of players nominated by sports information directors and head coaches and voted upon by a panel of SIDs and the D3baseball.com staff. Only regular season and conference tournament statistics are considered for the selection process; playoff games are not included.
