Linfield women’s tennis student-athletes Sophie Larson and Sarah Click have both been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One All-Academic District VIII At-Large Team, as announced Thursday.
The two were key members of the Wildcat club that won the Northwest Conference tournament championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship.
Larson, a four-year letterwinner, has maintained a 3.86 grade point average while majoring in exercise science. This season, she went 12-8 in singles play and 14-7 in doubles action.
Over her career, Larson has amassed the fifth-most career singles victories in program history with a 57-27 record and the ninth-most doubles wins with a career mark of 50-22.
Click, also a fourth-year player, carries a 3.97 GPA in biology. In her final season as a Wildcat, she went 12-5 in singles and 14-8 in doubles.
No two singles matches were bigger than her match-clinching victories against Whitman and Whitworth at the NWC tournament to help Linfield advance to and win the team championship, thereby qualifying for NCAA regional competition.
For her career, Click boasts a four-year record of 47-27 in singles and 53-27 in doubles. Those numbers put her at No. 11 (tied) on the program’s ladder for most career singles wins and sixth for career doubles victories.
Though both Wildcats have been named NWC Scholar-Athletes at least twice, this is the first academic all-district honor for the two women, who will graduate from Linfield May 29.
The all-district team, selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America, was chosen from a pool of nominees from colleges and universities in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Alaska and Hawaii, as well as British Columbia, Canada. The college division includes student-athletes representing NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The at-large team features student-athletes participating in the following sports: women’s bowling, women’s crew, fencing, women’s field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, men’s volleyball, water polo and men’s wrestling.
First team all-district honorees are automatically considered for the academic all-America team, which will be voted on and announced later this month.
