GREENSBORO, N.C. – The season may be over, but the Linfield men’s golf team has one more thing to hang its hat on after Alex Fitch was named to the Division III PING All-West Region Team. The honor was announced Thursday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Over the course of the season, Fitch recorded a team-best 75-stroke average. He had 11 top-5 finishes, including his first career tournament win.
He earned that first medal at the Northwest Conference Championship with a two-day score of 70-74=142. His two-under-par first round score was a career-low for the third-year player.
Fitch’s victory helped the Linfield men win the team tournament title, their third conference championship in four years, and a berth in the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship.
Competing at the national tournament for the second time in his career, Fitch carded a two-round score of 74-76=150 to finish 65th out of 205 total competitors. The Wildcats played 36 holes, but were not among the 15 clubs to advance to the third round of competition.
Fitch was one of two representatives from the Northwest Conference named to the all-region team; Jesse Salzwedel of Whitworth was also recognized for his play this season.
