Three Wildcats make academic all-district team
May 09, 2011

A trio of Linfield softball players have been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District VIII Softball Team: left fielder Kayla Hubrich, center fielder Jaydee Baxter and designated player Sami Keim.

First team accolades in the college division went to Hubrich and Baxter, while Keim was honored as a second team selection.

Hubrich, an exercise science major with a 3.83 grade point average, was recently selected to the all-Northwest Conference first team for the first time in her four-year career. Starting all 43 games this season, she registered a .409 batting average with 65 hits and 17 RBI. She led the conference in triples (4) and had the most stolen bases (14) of any Linfield player this year.

Teammate Baxter is also majoring in exercise science, and has a 3.93 GPA. This year, she led the team in doubles (12) while starting 39 games at center field. On the year, she hit .362 with 33 RBI and six home runs. For her efforts, she was a first team all-NWC selection.

Rounding out the honorees was Keim, who has maintained a 3.98 GPA while majoring in elementary education. Appearing in 31 games as the designated player, catcher or first baseman, she hit .254 with 17 hits, including three doubles and one home run, totaling nine RBI.

All three helped the nation's top-ranked team win an eighth consecutive regular season championship and inaugural conference tournament title to earn a spot in the NCAA Division III Championship.

Including the three Linfield players, the Northwest Conference made seven appearances on the all-academic team.

The all-district team, selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America, was chosen from a pool of nominees from colleges and universities in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Alaska and Hawaii, as well as British Columbia, Canada. The college division includes student-athletes representing NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

First team all-district honorees are automatically considered for the academic all-America team, which will be voted on and announced later this month.
