LEWISTON, Idaho - In a battle of Northwest Conference foes it was Linfield that capped off a four-game season sweep of Pacific Lutheran with a 10-4 win Saturday afternoon on the second day of the Inland Cellular Tournament at Harris Field.
After sweeping a three-game set against the Lutes last weekend, the Wildcats jumped out to an early 9-0 win on its way to a convincing win.
Tim Wilson (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) got the ‘Cats on the board in the first inning with an RBI single that scored Eric Evenson. Wilson would eventually score on a two-out RBI single from Clayton Truex (Jr., Kirkland, Wash.).
With a 2-0 lead Linfield (30-9) put up a five-run second inning. Kevin Allan and Kevin Coleman opened the frame with a pair of singles before Gunnar Cederberg drove in Allan on a single to center field. After an Evenson walk that loaded the bases, Wilson gave the Wildcats a 5-0 advantage with a two-RBI single to center.
Nate McClellan (Jr., Shoreline, Wash.) capped off the inning with a two-RBI single into right field, giving Linfield a 7-0 lead.
Pacific Lutheran (18-20) struggled to muster any scoring threat off Linfield starter Zach Brandon (Jr., Cottage Grove, Ore.). Brandon improved to 5-0 on the year, going five innings and giving up just three hits.
The Lutes scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, trimming the deficit to 9-4. After adding a run in the top half of the seventh, Linfield turned the game over to relievers Spencer Crepeaux and Jacob Nolte.
Crepeaux and Nolte threw a combined 3.1 shutout innings.
Wilson, Cederberg and Coleman tallied two hits apiece.
