McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Four Linfield women’s tennis players have been named to the 2011 all-Northwest Conference Women’s Tennis Team after helping the Wildcats finish second in the league for the third straight year. The all-star team, voted on by the league’s coaches, was announced Friday.
Abby Olbrich, Linfield’s No. 1 singles player, is now a three-time first team selection. This season, she went 10-5 in singles action, including a 7-3 conference record. She also teamed with teammate Sarah Click to go 12-4 at No. 1 doubles with a 9-2 win-loss mark in the NWC.
Click was named to the all-Northwest Conference team for the first time in her four-year career. A second team selection, she went 9-4 (7-2 NWC) in singles action, playing in both the No. 4 and No. 5 flights.
The senior graduates with a 44-26 career singles record and 51-23 career doubles record. She ranks in the top 12 all-time at Linfield in both categories.
Rounding out the list of Linfield honorees were doubles partners Sophie Larson and Caroline Brigham (Jr., Eagle, Idaho). The tandem combined to go 12-5 at No. 2 doubles, including 10-2 in the conference.
Individually, Larson, a four-year letterwinner, posted a 10-6 (8-3) singles record playing mostly at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. She leaves Linfield with the fifth-most career singles victories (55) and also boasts a 48-20 career record in doubles play.
Newcomer Brigham went undefeated in conference play this season at 10-0 and was 12-2 overall, seeing action primarily at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
The Wildcats clinched the No. 2 seed in the NWC Championships after concluding the regular season with an 11-1 league record and a 13-4 overall win-loss mark.
Rachel Burns of Whitworth took home NWC Player of the Year honors after helping her team win the league championship. Whitman’s Elise Otto was chosen as the NWC Sportsman of the Year and Lewis & Clark’s Gundars Tilmanis was selected as the NWC Coach of the Year.
NEXT: Linfield competes in the NWC Championships, hosted by Whitworth, in Spokane, Wash. The ‘Cats take on Whitman Saturday at 1 p.m. for a chance to move on to Saturday’s championship match.
