McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Departing seniors Mark Magdaong and Brent Kingzett can leave Linfield with their heads held high after being named to the 2011 all-Northwest Conference Men’s Tennis Team. The all-star team, voted on by the league’s coaches, was announced Friday.
Magdaong was a first team selection for the second time in his career after going 10-4 at No. 1 singles, including a 9-3 conference record. The four-year letterman graduates as Linfield’s all-time leader in career singles victories with 54.
He also boasts the third-best career singles record at 54-21 (.720) and ranks fourth in career doubles wins with 40. In addition, he owns the school records for most singles wins in a season (20) and for the best season singles record at 20-3 (.870).
Magdaong and teammate Kingzett combined to go 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, including 7-5 in league action.
Kingzett was an honorable mention, boasting an 8-6 record in singles play (6-6 in the NWC). He leaves Linfield with the fifth-best career doubles record at 51-27 (.654) and holds the school record for most doubles wins in a single season (16).
As a team, the Wildcats finished fifth in the conference with a 5-7 league record and a 6-8 overall win-loss mark.
Whitman, the league champion, brought home two of the top awards, as Conor Holton-Burke was named NWC Player of the Year and Jeff Northam was selected as the NWC Coach of the Year. George Fox’s Scott Barnett was chosen as the NWC Sportsman of the Year.
