McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Two Linfield players reached career milestones as the Wildcats blanked a Northwest Conference opponent for the second day in a row. The home team defeated Pacific Lutheran 9-0 Sunday at the Linfield Tennis Center.
Abby Olbrich won her 40th career doubles match and Sarah Watanabe picked up her 40th career victory in singles action to help the ‘Cats (11-4, 9-1 NWC) complete the season sweep of the Lutes (2-9, 0-9 NWC).
Olbrich’s reached the new mark when she and doubles partner Sarah Click defeated PLU’s Leah Newell and Tina Aarsvold 8-1.
The No. 2 tandem of Sophie Larson and Caroline Brigham (Jr., Eagle, Idaho) blanked Saiya Refaei and Hailey Rile 8-0. Sarah Watanabe and Katherine Allison (Jr., Bellevue, Wash.) picked up the final doubles victory with an 8-1 decision over Caitlyn Hoerr and Amanda Peterson.
The ‘Cats also swept all six singles flights, including Watanabe’s victory at No. 5 singles. She topped Deanna Ellmer 6-1, 6-1.
In other singles action, Olbrich defeated Newell 6-0, 6-3, Larson won the second flight over Aarsvold by a score of 6-2, 6-3 and Thomas crushed Hoerr 6-0, 6-1. Click also earned points for the Wildcats with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Refaei.
Marisa Steinkamp battled with PLU’s Rile for three sets before earning the victory by a score of 1-6, 6-1, 10-8.
NEXT: Linfield plays at Lewis & Clark Friday, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
