WHITTIER, Calif – Linfield dropped its sixth-straight lacrosse match, falling to Whittier College in a 23-9 rout Sunday morning at Memorial Stadium.
The Poets’ Carolyn Mukai scored all five of her goals in the first half as Whittier jumped out to a 15-5 lead before the break.
The home team continued to dominate in the second stanza, outscoring the visiting team 8-4 to achieve the 14-goal margin of victory.
For the game, the Poets outshot the Wildcats 33-16 and also took advantage of six free position opportunities, scoring on five of them.
In addition to her five goals, Mukai also provided five assists for the winning team. Teammate Shaina Denny had a game-high six goals and four other Poets scored.
Whittier improves to 5-4 on the season as Linfield slips to 1-8.
For the Wildcats, Erika Helm-Buckman and Shelby Duarte (Soph., San Ramon, Calif.) shared team-high scoring honors with three goals each.
Teammate Anna Gorciak had two and Brittani Drost (Sr., Forest Grove, Ore.) added one more to Linfield’s total.
NEXT: The ‘Cats return to the Northwest for a match against Puget Sound. The game will be played in Tacoma Friday at 1 p.m.
