BEAVERTON, Ore. – Linfield won every match on its way to a 9-0 defeat of George Fox in a Northwest Conference women’s tennis match that was moved to the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
In completing the season sweep against the Bruins (4-10, 1-7 NWC), the Wildcats, ranked ninth in the region, improve to 10-4 overall and 8-1 in league action.
Picking up a win in doubles play were Abby Olbrich and Sarah Click, who teamed to win the No. 1 flight over Molly Beaumont and Cara Griffith 8-1. Sophie Larson and Caroline Brigham (Jr., Eagle, Idaho) defeated the Bruins tandem of Alyssa Emoto and Shaina Inn 8-5.
The Bruins did not field a third doubles pair due to an injury to their No. 6 player, so Lexi Thomas (Sr., Redding, Calif.) and Kiana Nip won by default.
The Wildcats won all the singles flights by wide margins, including a default victory in the final match.
Olbrich opened singles action with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Beaumont. No. 2 player Larson earned a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Emoto and Thomas toppled Inn 6-0, 6-3. Brigham crushed Griffith 6-1, 6-0.
Sara Peterson won the final contested match over Liliya Abildayeva 6-3, 6-0. Marisa Steinkamp was credited with the win at the No. 6 slot as George Fox defaulted.
NEXT: The Wildcats look to earn another season sweep of a conference foe when they return home Sunday to play Pacific Lutheran. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
